DIRECTalk Off-Network Direct Connect
Allows users to communicate within 2-5 miles to other DIRECTalk capable devices.
DT uses public 900 frequency (ISM 900MHz)
User switches into DIRECTalk mode where handset becomes a local two-way radio.
- Network based services (Direct Connect, Group Connect, Cellular, Data) are not available in DT mode.
When in DT mode, all voice communitcation will occur using the speakerphone or through a headset.
Allows customers to privately communicate with another DT user by using their 10 digit phone number "Private DIRECTalk Call"
Public Safety, Publc Works, Rural Areas, In-Building Communication. Recreation
- Allows for out-of-coverage communicatins
- Provides reliable backup during network outages
- 3rd voice communications capability in single handset

but I wonder if it would effect your usage. You wouldn't be connected to the network so how could they trace your usage?

will that be available for everybody or just the govt workers? cuz if its for everybody thats a big reason to stay with nextel

i think everybody its for, also i think its starting with the new line of phones from the 830 and up.

i beleive its proper name is mototalk,,. and i think only selected phones will have this feature.
