i830 Delayed till June 1st

In an effort to provide a bit more guidance in light of today’s announcement that the
launch of the i830 will be delayed until June 1, 2004, please consider this FAQ.

Q. Why was the i730 Upgrade Deferral Program extended until May 31?
A. The i730 was an extremely popular phone and unfortunately inventory issues still exist
so we are unable to lift the upgrade restriction at this time. To compensate customers for
their inconvenience and to show our appreciation for their business, we are offering
customers who wish to upgrade to the i730 between May 3 and May 31, an exclusive
offer of $50 off the i830 when it becomes available on June 1. The i830 is Nextel's most
advanced and smallest clam phone, with an ultra-compact design. The phone will be
available on June 1 in Bronze or Silver.

Q. Why was it necessary to delay the launch of the i830?
A. Motorola was unable to provide sufficient inventory to support a launch date of May
17. By delaying the launch date until June 1 we are able to provide sufficient inventory
quantities to support the i830 launch in all channels. Additionally, by moving the launch
date to June 1 we are able to simultaneously launch the bronze and silver models of the
i830, giving customers a broader range of upgrade options.

Q. How can we be sure that inventory won’t be a problem on June 1?
A. We took the steps of delaying the i830 and extending the i730 Upgrade Deferral
Program to ensure that inventories on both phones would be sufficient to support all
customer requests on June 1. Moving forward from June 1, inventory on both phones
will be in line with demand. Customers will be able to take advantage of our entire lineup
of phones at that time.

Please note: The i730 upgrade deferral program will continue and i730 upgrades should be deferred when possible during this time. Customers should be offered a coupon valid for $50 off the i830 when the phone becomes available on June 1.

In the case of customer dissatisfaction, Nextel will honor the customer’s request to upgrade to the i730 prior to June 1.

yea, thats a big delay .. wouldnt quite expect it to be that long though .. but i guess they are really expecting a flood of upgrades , new sales, etc; as its exactly whats gonna happen anyway .. so rather then not have enough, piss people off and have to "make anything up to people for the inconvenience" :jo: .. they will make everyone wait .. :aw:

I am getting ready to call my local nextel store when they open in an hour.....rumor has it, they shipped some already...but from nextel tele sales, they won't be available until june 1st. My fingers are crossed that I have my new hombre in a few hours.

You know .. am far from a nextel coder .. like concerning webjal .. etc all those other apps .. but am wondering if we will soon be doing this _all over again_
drivers.. patches, new webjals .. you get the picture..

Is this going to be the case? will we all be on the hunt once again to mod our phones up, or because the i830 is a Falcon series phone, it wiil play nice with what we currently have ..

The 830 java emulator has been out for some time, so hint hint the same webjal SHOULD work. I have no way in confirming this as of yet, since the phones are unable to be sold yet. I did call the store and the manager says they have some in, but are unable to be sold until June 1st.

a nextel rep came to my store today and confirmed the 830 release on june 1st. he was using the silver/chrome one. theyre shipping 2 of each color to my store this week.

Allot of people dont like them, but the people saying that either wanna wait for the 860 or they haven't held one yet. I like the size, its small as hell. The feel of the kp, since the kp is actually part of the board. If you can afford the price, go for it, but if not then I would wait. I have money to throw around(yeah right) so I got it, plus hey its a new "gadget" and he who dies with the most toys wins. Or something like that.

3 hours ago I called telesales and ordered the silver i830. I will have it tomorrow but maybe 1` to 3 business days. Jason when you get a chance send me an instant message. I want you to change my kepad to hyper white and I dont know if you do palletes for it. I would like a couple of them but one is fine. im thinking silver with black to match the phone. give me a total and you know I do everything overnight.


I want you to do my phone XS hyper white keypad and outer lcd and the matching pallete. :up:

Ae, I was thinking about our conversation, and I think a red/white mix would look good also. The housings are in the works now, so depending on what housing you went with. Remeber the first set of housings always suck. Btw, I think it will be oem or nothing buttons since the ptt/home buttons are ribbons now. I also want people to know that if you plan on taking the flip apart......BE CAREFUL with the front panel. It will bend easily and you are fubar'd. Late
