Are there any techno savvy people here to tell me what they think the best mother board is for around $100-125.
I want to be able to run a p4 3.2ghz, 2 liteon dvdrw drives, and 2 80 gb maxtor ide hard drives.
Also, what would be a good video card for this setup? I want the PC to run superfast, and I don't play games, this is strictly an internet and business computer.
Please help me out, last time I built a computer by myself was when the voodoo 3 card just came out!?!

My asus motherboard is flawless...it came updated and all. I am running a p4 3.2 OC'd to 3.9 and its unstoppable. The MB only cost me about 80 bucks from newegg. DjJeffa hit it on the money with the video card, if I were you...no less than 1 gig of ram. Let us know if you need any walkthroughs, I can post a pic of mine if you like.

so no less than 1 gb of ram on video card or 1 gb ram for mobo?
Also, what type of memory should I use, or is that determined by the mobo?

He ment no less then a gig of ram on mobo....ram is determend by what motherboard u use....only certain ram works with certain mobo. Videocard u should be good with anything with 128mb onboard and up.

Ok, I'm obviously stooped, can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction, IE, a link to the best deal on newegg right now that will suit my needs? It'll definitely be much appreciated...:p

OK, I think I've changed my mind, now I think I want to get vista, just to stay in the loop...
I was thinkin this setup:
ati x1900 video card-->$100
Intel Core 2 Duo e6300 Conroe 1.86ghz-->$100
ECS ELitegroup p4m800 pro mobo--->$50
Liteon 16x dvd burner-->$45
Liteon 48x12x48x cdrw-->$10
Maxtor 200gb ata hard drive-->$50
Will this run vista? And what type of memory should I use, DDR 400 or DDRII 533?
Thanks,
-Chris-

The setup you posted was decent...vista will like the core 2 duo. As for the memory, go with the ddrII 533, the higher the number the better. I think you are at your budget right now adding shipping. Your are still left without a tower and power supply. I might add, those prices seem off. Are these items used? If not, can you link me to the video card? Thanks.

what do u have now?
Right now, I have a ass-old hp pavilion series celeron 533. Yea, it sucks. Using the horrible on-board graphics to do "photoshop" on it, and it has a 10 gb hard drive for "storing" music. It's a real head turner...Needless to say, I've neglected to update my home computer...
As for the prices, I am buying as much used crap as I can, my budget is tight, Christmas has killed me this year, and I don't even have any kids...
