Phone won't connect???

If you cannot get your phone to connect to a given program this is the troubleshooting guide for you.

1. Purchase a data cable. If it's not OEM don't bother. Spend the few extra bucks now and save yourself (and us) the headaches.

2. Make sure cable is plugged in computer

3. Make sure the phone is plugged in.
-If it is a USB your computer will sound detecting a device.
-If it is a serial and you are able to plug the charger inline with the cable, do so to test that the phone is securely connected to the cable.

4. Make sure proper USB drivers are installed. Guess what i did the work for (http://djjeffa.com/vb/showthread.php?t=530)you

5. Make sure in whatever program you are using, that in the settings you have selected USB or the appropriate serial port (i.e. COM1, COM2...)

6. Clean the contacts on the bottom of the phone.

7. After a failed attempt, leave the phone connected, power the phone off and then back on and try again.

8. If that doesnt work, disconnect the phone. Exit the program. Run the program, try again.

9. If that fails, disconnect the phone, reboot the computer and try again.

10. If that fails, go back to step 1.

well once its connected youre supposed to read or upload apps to it. leave it connected until you are done doing what u want with it.

Have you installed any java apps lately? If so remove them, and try again. I believe you will have more help in the jeffajal/webjal help threads, as Jimbo advised earlier.

I have I730 and Just Bouth Serial data Cable for it, NKN6560A
I am on XP home, I instal web jal, JALLite, evan Nextels Update for this phones (there Jal Program) But when I am trying to conect the phone and the PC, ALL the JALL Programs Giving me a Masage Cannot Detect The IDEN PHONE.
I dont know what To Do, I am new in this Nextel staf, I readed USB Giving to much problem So I purchazed the Serail cable, But Now this one is not working.
ANY IDIA WHAT TO DO?

Please post the correct baud rate for us man. :D
Not to mention a few little instructions on how to change it, im sure it will help someone in the future..hey, maybe even me if I cant get it connected once my cable comes in the mail.

hey im havin probs reading my phone ... i got the rss super agen t and a box pops up showing me the status ..and in a few secs the status is "entering rss--sim" and then its like my phone is off or sumtin all it shows on the screen is rss--sim session go or sumtin and then an otha box pops up on my comp and says can not communicate with fone :aw: .....and yes my baud rate is on 19200 and yes i checked the box to read my phone through usb...so if u can help out plz post up or PM me thnx :up:

first, check your connector on your phone. clean it with an old toothbrush and some alcohol. connecting via usb, do you have the usb drivers installed? also make sure you have no java apps running. alarm clock, stat light, etc.

thanks for the reply, I got it to work it was the ports it was saying my phone was on port 3 when it was on port 8 I just moved the ports and it works fine yeah!

Ok, here's my situation:


bought usb cable
downloaded MyJal
MyJal says my phone isn't connected when it is
downloaded appropriate drivers for i730 that were linked to above
got an error saying that the "drivers were not installed correctly"
re-ran installation 2 more times with same result
I know everybody things WebJal is better, but if MyJal won't recognize my phone is connected, then i'm not paying any $ to have WebJal do the same thing.

I've followed the tutorials listed above, checked connections and all that. I'm fairly certain it's the lack of drivers that's causing all the problems, but if they won't install what can I do ??

any help is appreciated

when youre using myjal, go into options- its on the left hand side---theres a box that says connect via usb connection- that always has to be checked. after you check it- go to apply new settings

Restart, defrag, and get a new pc.... no really restart, defrag, and reinstall the usb drivers from motorola.com/iden then check the usb box, thats about it

then u r deling with Baud Rate, 19200 probably as you know already since it has worked before. What i recommend is keep ur phone on the serial cable and turn it off take battery out, replace, then turn back on. Works 110% of the time. Thats all most of us can say for that problem. their is no drivers to install so it has something to do with the phone. Maybe check under system and hardware profile to see if you serial port is have a driver problem on its own.

As for checking the fuctionality of cables, The only ways are to QI it, if you have the gear, or plug it in to your comp and see if it works. Becareful of some usb cables, people have been selling "Charging USB Data cables" and all they do is charge your battery.

First get webjal to work, so you can troubbleshoot the USB installation.

Probly cause the ringtone is to long or something i had this problem before.. it could be that you saved it as a wrong type i-730 = Window MCW (sumthing like that) .wav i-830-860 is .mp3 then the other reason is cause its to long i 730 can hld up to about a minute maybe depends on what song and 860 can hld up to bout half of the song.. I'm not to sure wats wrong with your downloading explain it to me a bit more and ill see if i kno wats wrong

It could be one of a few things:

1. The format of what ever you are loading is not correct. This is the most common fix for this issue. Read the links below and make sure everything if formated correctly.

2. You have no space left on your phone

Basically, this means the tone is too big, in the wrong format or your phone is full.

what do u mean "stuck" does it freeze ur comp ? if not leave it on alito more. if not power cycle ur phone and computer. if that dont work reinstal drivers and webjal thats all i can think of.

I got my webjal to connect to my phone finally. but i had to go into device manager and change some properities around to have my usb to connect though com 1 and had to change some ports and stuff. But finally it works and the only problem is that i cant get my own pics to transfer to my phone for some reason but i will go into another site to figure all this out. Thanks:djjuice:

You have some java apps suspended. Go to java apps then the suspended folder close anything that is runing.

That is not part of the set up that is only to keep the proper connection.
all you need to do is install webjal then install the patcher and follow the rest of the steps listed in the forum under webjal & more!

Im having a minor problem. Last night i download maybe 30 wav files to my phone and they all work fine. Today, I tried to download wallpapers to my phone. Im using IDEN WEB JAL and i login, and connect. All of my phone info comes up. I then click download and select the gif file. I click download and just b4 it finishes it says. "General Communication error, check baud rate, and connections." I check the baud rate on both the phone and on the computer, and set it to the proper one.. And Still same message comes up.. Then i tried restarting.. plugging and unplugging the usb cable.. Do you have ANy Suggestions? TY :D

I believe that that error also comes up when there is not enough space on phone, what model phone were you loading things to?

That does happen from time to time. It might be a bad download the file has been corrupted. Does it happen to all of the files you download or just a few?

Also try turning ur phone on and off a few time cuz most of the time when that happens to me thats what i do and it works after..

this is most likley because what you are loading is in the wrong format. check our knowledgebase for correct file settings. PS this went unanswered for a long time?

Which model phone do you have and are you talking about webjal? If so try shutting any java apps you have open and exiting the java program. What message do you get when you hook it up and cannot find the connection?

Hi, I'm having trouble installing the USB drivers, I used the links provided in this thread and webjal is still telling me that they are not installed. I dont understand why this is so if the USB drivers seem to be installed properly.

try going to me my computer and control panel then install hardware while you have your phone connected, on what windows you running and make sure you install them correctly, if you cant find the drive search it.

I tried re-installing the USB drivers, first the program told me that i had successfully installed the software and that i can now connect my phone. Then i click finish and now the program is telling me that there was an error in verifying the USB drivers.

Thanks man, i found the problem, i just took my usb cable and plugged it into the back of my pc instead of one of the front ports. works good now. these problems made me feel stupid, been doing this for a couple of years now but when i got my new pc it wouldnt work . all better

I tried with that but as my Windows XP version is in Spanish it wont let me update the XP Drivers, and myjal would still say that i dont have the usb drivers properly installed. What should i do?

okay if you have installed your drivers multiple times maybe I can help. I had this same problem and this is how I fixed it. On your pc go to start then control panel then system. Once in system go to hardware and then device manager. Once the device manager comes up go to modems and see if there are more than 1 moto usb modem or p2ku devices in the list. If so then delete all but one and that should fix your problem.

Sorry you're right. I have only one modem in my control panel isntalled. My phone is a motorola i875. Webjal says the same, that the USB drivers for iDEN are not installed.
However i can see the phone files with another program, Media Downloader, and i installed my USB drivers for de iDEN.
I also have another problem you may know, i purchased a microsd of 512 MB with my phone. Im trying it so i loaded MP3, but it would only read me some of the mp3 (8 out of 63). Do you know why it could be?

Do an total uninstall and reinstall of the JAL proggys. See if this helps.
